Since we aren’t associate with those Jalops anymore. I can’t title this “Everything a Jalop Loves.”
No, it is not a brown manual diesel wagon, but it is the next best thing. Up for Nice Price or Crack Pipe consideration is a 1998 Subaru Impreza Hatchback. It contains all of the things that an Opponaut would want:
- AWD
- Manual Transmission
- A hatch
- Wheels
- An Engine
- Questionable grammar
It has even been parked offroad! Is now the time to get your winter beater? Well, at $1650, it might be.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
What does Oppo think, nice price or crack pipe?

Does the head gasket come pre fucked up, or is it likely to implode in the first several hours of ownership?

Came here to say the same thing...that mileage scares me on these

Interior could use a clean up, but otherwise, I’ll vote NP. It is possible to go much worse for that price.

EJ22 in this one, so unlikely in both cases.
It’s the early EJ25 you have to watch for, which was only available in the RS for this generation Impreza.

I’d say that’s well within striking distance of a NP. Would play hard-ball and start with $1k, then move up from there to, say, $1200-1300. Rust and head gasket inspired engine explosions are what killed/kills these cars, and if no rust and either a) gasket fixed or b) not an issue then...borderline NP.
That gen Impreza wagon would make an excellent backwoods explorer, short-distance overlander, or light offroader, in any season. Still good on gas, torquey, and handles something like the world champion it once was.
